If you're an expat living in Hangzhou β or planning a medical trip to China β one question comes up fast: where can I find English-speaking doctors? This guide covers the main hospitals in Hangzhou that serve international patients, how to book appointments, and what to expect.
Hangzhou is home to some of China's top-tier public hospitals. Two of them stand out for international patients: Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University (SRRSH) and The Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University (SAHZU). Both have dedicated international service centers with English-speaking coordinators.
SRRSH is widely considered the most expat-friendly hospital in Hangzhou. The Qingchun Campus has a dedicated International Medical Department with English-speaking staff, MUCH shorter wait times, and a separate entrance.
SAHZU is one of Zhejiang's largest hospitals, especially strong in cardiology and oncology. The Jiefang Road Campus has an international service window. English fluency varies by department β having a local companion helps.
Three main ways:
This is where many expats get stuck. Even at the international departments, not every doctor speaks fluent English. YoCare provides bilingual accompaniment β we go with you, translate during the consultation, help with payment, and make sure you understand your diagnosis and prescription.
One advantage of Hangzhou: it's a beautiful city to recover in. West Lake, temples, and tea gardens make the days after your hospital visit peaceful rather than stressful. Many of our clients combine their medical trip with a few days of gentle sightseeing β which is exactly why we built the Local Tours service.
We accompany you, translate, and handle the logistics β so you can focus on getting better.
